Abstract

Introduction: Worldwide resistance of staphylococci to antimicrobial agents represents a challenge of the XXI century microbiology. Objective: The objective of this research was to determine the gender of the resistance phenotypes of Staphylococcus, isolated from patients in the area of Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis area No. 1 Hospital General del IMSS, the state of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, from November 2005 until May 2006. Methods: Descriptive study according to demographic variables such as age and sex, and cross in the isolation of bacterial and analytical comparison of the phenotypes of resistance of MRSA isolates. Results: The results show that the phenotypes of resistance to methicillin in Staphylococcus aureus F3 and Fl of Staphylococcus sp was more frequent hemodialysis to peritoneal dialysis, with a risk 5.25 times (p <0.005). Conclusion: In isolates of Staphylococcus sp. coagulase-negative, patients in the field of hemodialysis, had 2.78 times (p <0.001) the risk of infection by this
group of microorganisms and 2.84 times (p <0.05) of the methicillin resistance to peritoneal dialysis patients.
